A CORNUCOPIA OF NEW IDEAS

SCIENCE

BINOCULARS - Buy a pair of binoculars at the dollar store or make your own with a paper towel roll. (Cut the paper towel roll in half and tape the two sections together. Punch holes in the end on either side and tie on a 24" piece of string.) Place the binoculars by a window in your classroom, along with paper, crayons, pens, pencils, etc. Tell the children to look out the window with the binoculars, and then draw a picture or write a story about what they saw.

LAB COATS - One teacher explained she went to a thrift store and bought an old men's shirt for each child in her classroom. They cut off the sleeves and wrote their name on the pocket with a permanent marker. Whenever they did science in her classroom, they put on their "lab coats" just like real scientists!
